Deprecate this.
[ Posted by Dan on September 06, 2002 | 2 Comments ]

So, <br> has been deprecated in the proposed XHTML 2.0 spec in favor of the <line> element. And while I can appreciate the tendency to lean toward logical rather than physical styles, the deprecation of <br> for <line> leads to an inflexibility...
The line element represents a sub-paragraph. It is intended as a structured replacement for the br element. It contains a piece of text that when visually represented should start on a new line, and have a line break at the end.
Um, I use <br> because I want ONE break, not two. If I wanted two, I'd use a block level element, like a <div>. I must be missing something here.

Normal Guy

The use of the word 'deprecate' in the context of something being obolete or superseded is wrong. It's use, though entrenched, reflects badly on the literacy of progrmmers and confirms the prejudices of those external to our industry regarding the ability of "geeks" to articulate ideas or generally communicate in an intelligible manner. We should use supersede (spelt with an "s" for those with English as their second language) as the act of replacing something with another like object which is more relevant or current, or we should use obsoletescent or obsolete when resorting to an adjective for something which is being phased out or has been phased out of use (respectively). How about we all get with the program!

BTW, English was my second language ;)

You know, it's always a good idea, when being super picky about someone else's grammar and spelling, to check your own.

1) "obolete"
2) "progrmmers"
3) "It's" - In that sentence, it should have been "Its"

Comment posting has been turned off because I don't have enough time and will to deal with the constant comment spamming. I'm very sorry and will fix this sometime soon (soon = before 2004 ends).
