I bought REM's "Document", will I buy Apple's?
[ Posted by Dan on January 28, 2003 | 4 Comments ]

Back in the day, cassettes were the compact music format of choice, REM was still college rock, and Document was an album title. Today, it's the next great hope that Apple will be able to shed the MSFT life support system called Word.

MacWhispers, a Mac rumors site that I've never heard of is saying apple will release an app (suite?) called Document meant to supplant the aforementioned productivity app I have bought and caused two employers to buy (I know, I suck). A month ago I would have thought this was a crazy idea and that MacWhispers ultra low posting count (i mean c'mon, the post number is 0000009, and doesn't under the same domain name as the home page) but Safari makes me believe that Apple is doing everything it can to dump the MSFT.

Who knows. I don't use Word all that often anyway. The big question is if they make this app, will they sell it, or give it away?

Nice title. :) I'm all about gimmicky use of metadata.

Document sounds great to me. Thomas Vander Wal wrote a nice entry on what would probably be the best outcome if this rumor were true: structure.

Oh and they'll sell it. They can't afford to give their big apps away anymore.

P.S. Another request for the redesign: Include a "remember me" checkbox for the comments. Thank you.

I'd love it if they gave it away and give MSFT a taste of their own meds.

I've got the cookie implementation done for saving the contact info and will be removing the email requirement. I'm also adding something new to the posting form...

Sounds interesting, but I'll give anything on any mac rumor site a pound or two of salt beyond the requisite grain...

So when are you going to post an update on the update? Let us know what you've got planned. :-)

i just hope apple will also concentrate on improving their existing apps. ical and isync and address book are unusably slow, at least on my machine. i do use mail, but it's annoyingly lethargic as well. they should make good, before they make more.

Comment posting has been turned off because I don't have enough time and will to deal with the constant comment spamming. I'm very sorry and will fix this sometime soon (soon = before 2004 ends).
