Got CMS?
[ Posted by Dan on February 04, 2003 | 2 Comments ]

The AIfIA has a compiled a study on the problems with CMSs, but there were only 64 responses. In a world of millions of CMS users, 64 responses seems kind of anemic. Having the respondents be "Members of sigia-l, AIfIA, and the ia-cms" mailing lists would tend to skew the numbers in one direction due to those respondents being generally cluefull and skilled. So I'm not sure what I take away from the report after reading it.

Yeah... wasn't much to it, was there.

We use Transit, here. Collossal pain. We're looking into switching to Macromedia Contribute, since there aren't that many people who 'own' content.

My opinion of CMSs are very low, but the cost is not one of my problems. I've written mini CMSs and I know how complex they can be. Combine that and the limited market and you get a high price. I think that basically if you can't afford a CMS then your business isn't big enough to need one.

My problem is that systems (like Divine) are typically so monolithic that they create their own required skillset. The ones that don't take this approach (like Interwoven) usually involve high integration costs.

Comment posting has been turned off because I don't have enough time and will to deal with the constant comment spamming. I'm very sorry and will fix this sometime soon (soon = before 2004 ends).
