Good dads play Gameboy.

I had my first Father's Day over the weekend, and my wife was kind enough to get me a couple of gists and a card. I got her nothing for Mother's Day, mostly due to the fact that she was in the Hospital recovering from the C-Section. So basically, she got a baby and a full day's worth of my time for her first Mother's Day.

So, she got me this pencil holder thing with a picture in it of my and the baby. Also, there was a Gameboy Advance SP in the gift bag as well. I had been railing on for months about the Gameboy SP and had planned on buying one as soon as my ultra slow savings plan had accrued $100 (ie, I throw loose change into a box at home).

Now, I get to finish Advance Wars in full backlit glory, and will probably finish Yoshi's Island as well. That will be a satisfying event to be sure, but the most satisfying part of the weekend was the card that accompanied the gifts. My wife had written in the card that I was already proving to be a good father. I can't describe how satisfying that is.

Hey there -

I've been following your site for a while (I'm not sure how I got here) and spotted your post about your first father's day. Congratulations! I also celebrated my first yesterday - my baby daughter was born on 5/6, and mom celebrated her first mother's day 2 days after coming home from the hospital (recovering from c-section as well).

Isn't being a father just a wonderful thing? I get pictures emailed during the day, phone calls from a crying baby, and then get to come home to a beautiful little girl - my daughter!

Anyway, I just wanted to write to let you know that I share in your joy, and enjoy fatherhood.

Hey, you guys...

I celebrated my second Father's Day, so I'm an old pro.

:-P

I didn't get a Game Boy or anything cool like that. Once your baby is mobile, as mine is, your spare time will asymptotically approach zero... you'll spend every waking moment keeping your baby out of the house plants and the dogs' water bowl and the toilet. There will be no time for Game Boy.

At least, that's been my experience. YMMV.

It's a good exchange, though......

I used to play 3+ hours worth of games, and that has dropped to less than 1 hour perday since the baby arrived. I can already feel my priorities shifting though, and I don't miss the bleary eyed Tribes2 sessions.

The GBA has been great though for those 4am, get the baby back to sleep sessions. She'll just lay there quietly, but awake, and slowly drift back to sleep while I attempt to crush Olaf in Advance Wars. :) It's really tough not to scream 'dammit!' when one of my Missle Launchers gets destroyed.

"...my wife was kind enough to get me a couple of gists and a card. I got her nothing for Mother's Day..."

I guess you just didn't get the gist

"f" is kinda close to "s".

Comment posting has been turned off because I don't have enough time and will to deal with the constant comment spamming. I'm very sorry and will fix this sometime soon (soon = before 2004 ends).
